Vernon Wills Band
Calgary International Blues Festival (2013, 2014)
Singer/songwriter/producer/engineer Vernon Will's first serious musical influence was his Mother.
However after he saw his first concert, which was Lonnie Mack and Little Richard, the deal was sealed and everything else took a back seat. His first band, The Mystics, from Nova Scotia, was the beginning of a long career. At 17, he was playing New York's finest establishments and touring. His biggest influence was the night he met Albert King, this has been his overall ongoing source of inspiration. He also saw Muddy Waters soon after.
Touring and recording, Vernon was lucky enough to have played and jammed with many big names. Chuck Berry, Jeff Beck, Roger McQuinn, Clarence White, Guitar Shorty, Fleetwood Mac, T-Bone Walker, The Standells, Cadillacs, Chubby Checker, Steppenwolf, Ten Years After, Byrds, Rod Stewart, Small Faces, Bruce Cockburn, too many others to mention here.
Born in Calgary, the son of a military family, the dye was cast, he was brought home in the sidecar of an Indian motorcycle - touring had already begun. Vernon has toured most countries of the globe - in bands and as a solo artist. He has Gold and Platinum songwriting credits to his accomplishments. Appears on Capitol, CBS, Sony records.
He has been featured on CKUA's ACME Sausage compilation's CD.
Vernon has worked with many top producer's, Jim Gaines( Memphis Studio's ) being his favourite to date. New York, LA, Vancouver, London, Paris, Nagpur, Vienna, Milan and Perth have been some of the main homesteads and musical influences.
Currently Vernon has enjoyed his last 7 years playing the Blues in Calgary, and several International Bluesfests as well as Songwriting Clinics.
Although concentrating on Blues and R&B, Vernon teaches guitar, bass and drums at Studio Nine in Calgary.
