Steve Pineo
Calgary Bluesfest (2008), Calgary International Blues Festival (2015)

Steve Pineo is a slinger songwriter from Calgary who has had hits recorded by Paul Brandt and Prairie Oyster. Well versed in the blues, he was one of the youngest artists ever to lead a band at the fabled King Eddie. There, he learned first-hand from greats like James Cotton, Luther "Guitar Junior" Johnson, and Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown. Steve has written hundreds of songs in the pop, blues, country and jazz genres, and was the lead guitarist in the legendary Billy Cowsill led band-The Co-Dependents. He holds down Calgary"s longest running blues night-Blue Mondays at Mikey's Juke Joint, works as an arranger and producer, plays guitar for vocal ensemble Revv 52 and continues to write original and heart-felt music at an amazing rate.

Steve Pineo's Mardi Gras Band

The Golden Age of New Orleans Rhythm and Blues-from Professor Longhair through Fats Domino, Ernie K Doe, Allan Toussaint, Earl King, The Meters, the Neville Brothers and Dr. John-is the inspiration for Steve Pineo's Mardi Gras Band. Strains of traditional jazz mix with Caribbean rhumba rhythms and French and Spanish melodies created a sound like no other. This music filled the void between the dawn of rock and roll and the British Invasion, and continued to influence artists like Little Feat, Tom Waits and Elton John.

Steve Pineo's Mardi Gras Band lovingly recreates this sound, through well chosen cover songs and southern influenced original songs. The band features Steve Pineo on lead vocals and guitar, Mike Clark on tenor sax, Allistair Elliott on trumpet, Derek Stoll on piano and tuba, Brian "Bro" Pollock on bass and Kelly Kruse on drums. They have been playing together for two years, and have created quite a buzz!
