John White & Smokin' Aces
Calgary Bluesfest (2011)

Hard Rocking, Down Home, Chicago Blues.

Taking the music of 60s artists such as Muddy Waters, Howling Wolf, the Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, the Animals and Jimmy Reed the band looks to add a slightly harder 'edge' that makes their music relevant not only to mature audiences that remember the music from the first time round but also to the younger set that just like to rock.

The band is led by English singer and bass player John White who learned his craft playing in English blues bands such as Highway 61, the Blackwater Blues Band and Voodoo Blooze before moving to Canada and establishing a reputation as a powerful singer who 'feels the blues' and gets the audience involved.

Local drummer Glenn Watts supplies the driving rhythm while Calgary guitar players Brian Guest and Kyle Nunweiler add the solid skillful interplay of blues riffs and melodies that are the band's trademark.

Seasoned local singer, song writer and sometime guitar player Larry Wackerhauser guests on Harp to add to that authentic Chicago sound.

If you like good old fashioned, hand clapping, foot stomping, hard rocking Chicago blues then you will love Smokin' Aces.
