Preston & Bonkowski
Calgary Bluesfest (2008)

Victoria's Gary Preston and Anita Bonkowski swing the blues with Gary on vocals, keyboard and harmonica, while Anita plays upright bass and percussion. Classic and original blues, jazz and some latin spice.

Equally adept on harmonica, keyboards and vocals, veteran bluesman Gary Preston has performed his brand of blues and boogie across Canada and in the Caribbean. He headlined the Harmonica Blast at Vancouver's Yale Hotel for the past two years as well as major Canadian festivals, sharing the stage with Eric Burdon, James Cotton, Lee Oskar, Colin James, Dutch Mason, The Ray Charles Orchestra, Otis Rush, John Hammond and the late blues master Junior Wells.

Gary started performing blues in Toronto, learning from Morgan Davis, Don Walsh and Chris Whitely. He was next an integral part of the Winnipeg blues scene before relocating to the west coast, where he is well-known for his work with Gary Preston & the Harpoons, The Bill Johnson Band, and his current collaborations, Preston & Bonkowski and The Gary Preston Band.

Anita Bonkowski has been a professional musician for the past fifteen years after receiving her Masters Degree in Music from the University of Victoria, and her Associate in Jazz Diploma from Malaspina College.

Working with such musicians as Herb Ellis, Hugh Fraser, Ian McDougall, Oliver Gannon, Fraser MacPherson, Roy Reynolds and Mart Kenney, she has also worked as a percussionist with such international notables as Johnny Mathis, Englebert Humperdinck, and Moody Blues.
