Panzie Johnson was born on May 5, 1975, in Bryan-College Station, Texas. Born into a gifted family of singers, musicians, preachers, and writers, Panzie was encouraged to do what she felt in her heart to do - sing. Inspired by parents, mother, Evangelist Mary L. Mitchell and father, Rev. John A. Maxey, who often traveled and sang together throughout major cities, to sing from the soul. "I remember as a child being taken by my parents ability to sing and harmonize together, along with others. Not because they could just sing, but they were so powerful and anointed", says Panzie.
The first time Panzie's voice was heard was, naturally, at The House of Prayer & Life Pentecostal Church, where her grandmother, Alma Faye Mitchell was Pastor. At 11, she became a member and lead singer of "The Anointed Angels", which consisted of four talented young girls. Unfortunately, after three years the group disbanded, but that didn't stop Panzie from reaching for the stars.
Panzie's music career began to bloom during the early 1990's when she, at the age of 16, won the Teen Vocalist Championship category on the popular syndicated show Star Search, with Ed McMahon. At 17, Panzie scored her first deal with Columbia Records with then, American Idol's Randy Jackson, who was A&R at the time. However, the two never collaborated, but Panzie didn't let that stop her. She continued to do what she loved.
After graduating in 1993 from Theodore Roosevelt High School in San Antonio, Texas, Panzie continued to make special appearances throughout the city and Texas. Singing the National Anthem is a favorite of Panzie's and the National Anthem constantly got her invitations to the Spurs NBA Games, political functions for the Senator, Mayor, and Governor. In 1993 Panzie received special honor from Governor Ann Richards. Governor Ann Richards commissioned Panzie the Yellow Rose of Texas.
Since then, Panzie has toured the world with Legendary Icon Stevie Wonder for thirteen years. She has appeared on countless television programs, such as, The Oprah Winfrey Show, 2005 BET Awards, Soul Train Music Awards, Live 8 in Philadelphia, and The Capitol's Fourth. She has also worked with many talented producers and artists; Stevie Wonder, Rick James, Fred Hammond, Kirk Franklin, Herman Jackson, Jeffrey Osborne, Randy Jackson, Chuck Boom, and Trin-i-tee 5:7, and recorded records with Rick James, Stevie Wonder's "Natural Wonder" live in Osaka, Japan, Mariah Carey's Glitter's Soundtrack and many others.
Although Panzie itinerary keeps her traveling, she finally completed her single, "Somebody Loves You", that she co-wrote and produced along with producer Chuck Boom, and it's set to be released in January of 2007. "This song is so special to me. I was going through transition and during this time in my life God was showing me that when no one else seems to care about you and what is going on in your life, He cares. And I knew in my heart that God was watching over me." Inspired by real life issues and writing about situations people can relate to, is what drives Panzie to sing about them. Having overcome obstacles, both personal and business, the multitalented singer - songwriter, decided to start her own recording company and release her records. She founded the record company Johmax Music Group, which will soon establish itself as a major force in the music industry.
With a common passion for music, Panzie and her stepfather, Donald Johnson, continues to share a bond that is unbreakable. Donald Johnson, a member of the 1979 Grammy Award winning group, A Taste of Honey, keeps Panzie motivated and inspired to achieve her goals. "Panzie is fantastic! She comes from a family of talented people, she can't help but do what she does - sing," says Donald. Watching Panzie grow up, for Donald it has been interesting and exciting. She has grown up to be this beautiful woman having accomplished so much on her own. I'm proud of her, my daughter.
Finally, Stronger now than ever before, there is no doubt that Panzie Johnson has a promising future ahead of her. "I know what I want and desire to do for myself and others around me. I will not stop until I have achieved that goal," says Panzie
