Mike Watson & the 6L6s
Calgary International Blues Festival (2012)
At the tail end of the King Eddy's life, Mike Watson began his journey into the blues, jamming with most of the local musicians on the scene at that time. The incredible Bill Dowey and his incendiary slide guitar sound left the most lasting impression, along with informal mentorship, inspiring Mike in his search of live, authentic and heartfelt blues.
Fast forward to 2012, and a long stint hosting the Blues Can Sunday Night Jam, which has opened multiple doorways for new blues, new sounds, but most importantly, new friends. Born from these Sunday night jams were the 6L6s, including the rhythm section of Anders Czarnecki on drums, Tommy Knowles on bass, and the recent addition of Steve Fletcher on organ. This hand-picked, dexterous group of musicians allows for celebration of the best of the old times, including hollers, work songs, gospel, and piedmont sounds, mixed with a little Chicago, and rounded it out with modern rhythms such as reggae and rhumba.
