Guy Chaput & Sci-fi Band
Calgary Bluesfest (2007)

Guitarist, singer and songwriter Guy Chaput's music is definitely out of the box. While the foundation is firmly rooted in the blues, his electrified sound draws from boogie-rock and rhythm and blues, fusing with his gritty vocals and blistering guitar to become a sound that defies description.

Guy Chaput officially made his arrival on the Canadian blues scene April 5, 2007 with Awakenings (Indie 2007), his debut CD release. Writing thirteen of the fourteen originals (drummer Duris Maxwell contributes the title track), the multi-talented musician, his Sci-fi band, and several special guests perform the swampy mix that defies labeling.

Guy Chaput grew up in a small Manitoba town as a member of one of many families in the area with a strong Metis heritage. Fluently bi-ligual, his first language was French. As a child Guy briefly studied piano, but when introduced to the guitar at age 18 he discovered his true 'voice' and his natural talent for song-writing. Since that time Guy has written dozens of honest, eclectic songs in both French and English, producing heartfelt messages and a lean, genuine sound all his own. His distinctive guitar style is spare and authentic, his voice rough-hewn, and his true-to-life lyrics speak to the spirit of everyday people.

Forming the Sci-fi Band along with guitarist Dave Currie, and drummer Duris Maxwell (Heart, Doucette, Powder Blues, Trooper) two years ago, Sci-fi has built a large and loyal fan-base spanning the nation, and is rapidly climbing the charts across Canada. Sci-fi Band will be joined by guest bassist Curtis Cripps for their festival and Brown Bag Lunch Series performances.
