Black Cherry Perry & the Mississippi Medicine Show
(Calgary Bluesfest 2017)
From the heart of the Mississippi Delta, at the turn of the last century, came a music so powerful that it pit the forces of good vs evil, angels vs demons, light vs dark.
Inspired by the mystique and majesty that were the famous "Travelling Medicine Shows," Black Cherry Perry looks to entertain visually as well as musically.
"The blues stars were and are big time entertainers. Audiences are looking for a show. They want to be entertained. They want to let their hair down, and they want to cut loose. We have some theatrical background, and we can't just stand there. The music takes over us... It's like we're men possessed."
Black Cherry Perry's Mississippi Medicine Show features on vocals/harmonica, "Black Cherry" Perry Gangur with Steven Halvorson on guitar, Viktor Szuroczki on bass guitar and Holly Magnus on drums. Noted for their innovative hoodoo inspired R&B/Blues/Rock style and highly entertaining theatrical stage show, Black Cherry Perry's Mississippi Medicine Show has been performing at clubs and festivals throughout the Calgary area since 2005.
Black Cherry Perry & the Mississippi Medicine Show were CBMA Road to Memphis Blues Challenge Finalists among Southern Alberta's top blues acts. Black Cherry Perry captured the 2016 CBMA Harmonica Player of the Year.
This dynamic group is presently recording a follow up album to the release, Black Cherry Perry's Mississippi Medicine Show," and is due out this summer.
