CANADIAN BLUES DIVAS SHOWCASE 2007

Kicking off 2007 was the inaugural "Canadian Blues Divas Showcase," a series of events profiling renowned Canadian blues singers. Held the end of January, the showcase featured headline artists Georgette Fry and Dawn Tyler Watson, two of Canada's First Ladies of the Blues. The first annual series included 2 concerts, 2 dance parties, a master class taught by Georgette & Dawn, and the first-ever "Singing the Blues" competition."

'SINGING THE BLUES' COMPETITION

The competition was open to singers ages 18 & over from Calgary and area. Seven finalists were chosen from the online entries to participate in the final stage of the competition, which involved performing with a live band before the panel of judges and a live audience. Judges based their decision for the Grand Prize winner on vocal production, stage presence, and the ability of the contestant to communicate with the musicians without a prior rehearsal. Winners were announced following all the contestant's performances.
