New Guitar Summit

Gerry Beaudoin / Duke Robillard / Jay Geils in a 5 piece band

Calgary BluesFest is excited to announce our upcoming concert, New Guitar Summit, on Friday, May 5th, 2006, at the Ranchman's. Featuring Gerry Beaudoin, Duke Robillard and Jay Geils, New Guitar Summit showcases these three superstar guitarists in an exciting trip through the history of jazz, blues and swing guitar.

Duke Robillard is a four-time W.C. Handy Award winner as Best Blues Guitarist, who formed the legendary Roomful of Blues band, later replaced Jimmie Vaughan in The Fabulous Thunderbirds and has recorded with the likes of Bob Dylan, The Blind Boys of Alabama, Jay McShann and Herb Ellis, in addition to his own stellar solo career.

Jay Geils needs no introduction to the legion of music fans that made The J. Geils Band one of the leading acts in the history of rock and roll. After a twenty five year career with over 10 million records sold, a Grammy nomination, five gold records, one double platinum record, multiple television and movie appearances, and tours with the Allman Brothers and the Rolling Stones, the band decided to quit at the top of their game with the number one single and number one album on the charts. Following that he's gone on to tour with B.B. King.

Gerry Beaudoin has a reputation an outstanding musician, composer, arranger and educator. He has won numerous awards both as a solo artist and as leader of the Boston Jazz Ensemble. He teamed with mandolin wizard David Grisman for Minor Swing, and later joined forces with Grisman and jazz guitar legend Bucky Pizzarelli to record Just Among Friends. He's also performed or recorded with a host of other artists including Jay McShann, Eddie "Cleanhead" Vinson, Levon Helm, Andy Summers and Ronnie Earl.
