CANADIAN BLUES DIVAS SHOWCASE 2007
On January 26 & 27, 2007, the CBMA was pleased to launch the inaugural 'Canadian Blues Divas Showcase," a celebration of blues singers and their songs in Canada. The 2007 showcase starred two of Canada's finest blues vocalists, Georgette Fry and Dawn Tyler Watson, for a weekend of events including two double-header concert performances, a master vocal class, a singing competition, and two dance parties. The first ladies of Canadian blues were backed by the legendary Amos Garrett & the Eh Team for all events.
Singer/songwriter Georgette Fry earned a JUNO nomination with her
debut CD (1995), and has captured numerous awards, armloads of
nominations, and legions of fans ever since. A veteran performer on
the festival and concert circuit, Georgette receives critical acclaim
wherever she performs.
Dawn Tyler Watson
Dawn Tyler Watson gained international recognition in 1997 with three
songs on a Preservation Records compilation CD. In 2001 she released
her own debut "Ten Dollar Dress," and has since garnered fifteen
Maple Blues Award nominations, and won the 2006 award for "Vocalist
of The Year."
